I've been adopted!!

I'm super lucky, because a veteran blogger has offered to take me under their wing and show me the ropes of the food blogging world.  Carla, of Chocolate Moosey has adopted me under the Adopt-A-Blogger program run by Kristen at Dine and Dish.

Carla and I both like to bake, from the looks of it, and she is a fellow member or Tuesdays with Dorie.  She is a fellow Pennsylvanian, although she is from the other side of the state.  I am sorry to disappoint her with the fact that I am a fake Pennsylvanian.  I will try to keep the rivalry going as best I can, although I am a true (Northern) California girl at heart.

Please visit Carla's blog and look for new hotness on I'll Eat You based on all the wisdom she has to share.

Actually, I like you even more because you aren't an Eagles fan haha It seems like you are doing fine, but I will give you advice anyway. In order for your blog to become popular, you must assert yourself and genuinely make yourself noticed - comment on fellow blogs, participate in challenges, host events, etc. From the looks of it, you already have Tuesdays With Dorie and Daring Bakers, not to mention various round ups. So you are well on your way!

Any questions?

Pictures are very hard to do. If you look at my blog from when I first started, my pictures are just, ok here's the food. Now, I've learned (mainly from observation) some tips. Try to establish a background based on ingredients. For example, my Whopper cookies, I had a little container of Whoppers in the background. For my coconut lime tea cake, I had a lime behind the cake. If I can't highlight the main ingredient, I use scrapbooking paper for the background (as you did for your Whopper and PB cookies). Or cute props. I used a cow mug for my PB cookies.

For the lighting (which is also my downfall), it looks like your house is poorly lit. However, I don't think you need to buy an expensive light. Try using natural light. I haven't tried this yet, but maybe you can get a small desk lamp? You just have to be careful about shadows. Maybe have your house lighting as the main light and the desk lamp to fill in the shadows? (Or vice versa). I cheat a little and use Adobe Photoshop to fix my lighting.

Tastespotting makes me mad. I only got two pictures up because they reject most of my entries. They say it's because the lighting is low. But once we fix the lighting problem, TS should hopefully accept yours, and it will definitely bring you more visitors.

As far as getting regulars, it's hard. I have certain blogs I visit every day and comment, and in return they visit mine regularly and comment. Posting a lot helps. Maybe 3 times a week. That way it's enough new stuff but people have time to reply. I also notice my TwD posts get way more comments than my other posts. Hosting events helps too.

Congratulations on being adopted! And thanks Carla for all that great advice. I know we (the viewing public) weren't adopted but we will benefit from you advice!
